Last week I caught this fabulous event online at Snug Harbor:
Mahmoud “Mood” Chouki is a Moroccan master guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator based in New Orleans. His music draws inspiration from traditions around the world. In addition to training and performing with conservatories internationally, Chouki teaches at the Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans and serves as music curator for the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). He composed the score for the 2021 Sundance award-winning film Ma Belle, Ma Beauty and was named Best Emerging Artist at OffBeat Magazine’s 2020 Best of the Beat Awards. His New World Ensemble continues to earn acclaim, including Gambit Weekly’s 2022 Big Easy Award for Best World Music Artist.
This performance features:
Mahmoud Chouki – guitar, cigar box oud
Oscar Rossignoli – piano
Martin Masakowski – bass
Brad Walker – saxophone
Jafet Perez – drums
