Jim Marshall, one of the best known and perhaps the most legendary rock photographers ever, has died at the age of 74. Rolling Stone reports he died in his sleep in New York. Marshall was to have been a part of an event at New York’s Morrison Hotel Gallery tonight, but the event has been changed to a memorial of Marshall’s work, according to Entertainment Weekly. His photography was indeed legendary. He took a famous shot of Johnny Cash flipping his middle finger. He photographed the Beatles as they headed for the stage at Candlestick Park for their final concert. He took many album cover photos, including “The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East”.
You can see more of his photos on his website.
He will surely be missed and I send my condolences to his family and friends.
