Originally from the green rolling hills of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based fiddler-turned-songwriter with a voice that glides effortlessly between tenderness & strength. After a formative chapter of singing & songwriting with roots trio The Stray Birds, she launched her solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country, NPR Music, & No Depression. Since then, she has released 3 more full-length albums—How to Break a Fall, Violet Light, & The Only Moment; an EP, Infinite; and multiple singles, all of which are testaments to her personal reinvention & creative growth. Energized by the spontaneity of live performance and a revelatory pursuit of truth in her lyric writing, Maya returns with her 5th full-length album, All My Faith. Prioritizing presence & grit over studio polish, she sounds joyously at home in the alt-country & indie-folk realms. Recorded & mixed by 5-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Sean Sullivan and self-produced by de Vitry, All My Faith is a buoyant gathering of songs brought to life by a cast of her closest confidantes & collaborators. All My Faith was released on her own Mad Maker Studio label on July 24. From canyons to kitchens, from cold lakes to highway truck stops, the songs form a vibrant collage of joy, sorrow, and gut-wrenching honesty. I had the pleasure of spending some time with Maya de Vitry ahead of her September 16th event at the Shitty Barn in Spring Green Wisconsin. We talk extensively about what the show will be like from each side of the stage, for listeners and for the band. Speaking of the band, it’s the exact same players in Spring Green as it is on the brand new record. How real will it feel live to have those who felt the original music to present it, live in it with the audience. Maya tells the timeline of the creation of this new album through the many hats she wears during the entire process. She also talks about the birth story of one track I ask about before I shared it on the radio. This conversation reminded me about the process, the belief in oneself and the tenacity to keep on keeping on. All things music can do for anyone.
