Brian Olsen Art in action…A Must SEE.

Please take a moment, if you have never heard of Mr. Denny Dent before, this is for you. Brian Olsen is an Edward Scissorhands of artistry. He weaves and bobs, blends and mixes, cranks tunes and of course, has the auidence enthralled. This spirited showman can be found at BRIANOLSEN.com Please do yourself a favor and check it out. His work is complex and crazed at times, sometimes he ends up looking the part if the easel. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, jaw dropped catching flies and astonished how the end results gets to where it is via the route Brian takes.

get to know Tony Tyler’s Trance…

Listen to our chat right here just hours before his cd release party.

The Tony Tyler Trance was formed in October 1999 by father and son founding members, Stan and Tony Tyler Killingsworth. They first played together when Tony, at the age of seven, took up drums and percussion with Stan’s band, Crossfire. At age twelve, Tony switched to guitar and keyboards, paving the way for the formation of The Tony Tyler Trance. In 2000, T.K. Blues (soon to be renamed The Tony Tyler Trance) was engaged as the house band at a club in Milledgeville Ga. During this time Tony and Stan were approached by the manager of the nationally broadcast Nickelodeon Networks teenaged band , East of August. This band, young as they were, featured two members that appeared on the 2000 Grammy Awards. In mid-2001, Tony was invited to be guitarist and lead vocalists for yet another teenaged band being formed by a former manager of the rock band Areosmith. Tony traveled with the group, eventually named Hippiegrabber, to New York, Boston, and Los Angeles for rehearsals, recordings, and a video shoot. This project attracted serious attention from several record companies, following which a contract was extended. After careful deliberation, Tony decided that finishing High School was to be his first course of action. In 2001, Tony and Stan secured WILLIAM PERKINS as manager for the Tony Tyler Trance. His road management with the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND as well as managing the solo careers of STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN and GREGG ALLMAN in the 1980’s allows Mr. Perkins to bring vast experience and knowledge in the promotion of The Tony Tyler Trance. His professional relationship with CHUCK LEAVELL, keyboardist with the ROLLING STONES, has led Mr. Leavell to express keen interests in developing and producing a future recording project with the Tony Tyler Trance. This project would be contingent upon the time constraints imposed by Leavell’s duties with the Rolling Stones and their upcoming tour. Rounding out the Tony Tyler Trance are Michael Hurwitz, who also began playing at a very early age in his dad’s band and applies considerable talent and experience to his position as bassist, and Adam Brimacomb on rhythm guitar.

Pedro Arevalo…a real cool cat.

At 18 years old, Pedro was doing session work and production in styles as diverse as jazz, funk, reggae and hip-hop. His days were filled with teaching as many as 60 students per week. In 1996, the 20 year old multi-instrumentalist received a performance scholarship to the acclaimed Berklee College of Music. Between the years of 1997 & 2001, Pedro completed his musical studies in Boston, MA, while performing with two popular West African band leaders, Djeli Balla Tounkara and his band “Mande Foli” & master drummer Sidi “Joh” Camara & his band “Jamajigi”, as well as his African drum and dance ballet “Troupe Sewa”. many came to notice his proficiency on a variety of instruments including the: Dobro, Contrabass, Steel Pan, Hawaiian Guitar, the West African Ngoni, the Moroccan Sintir, the Puerto Rican Cuatro, and of course, Bass and Guitar. Pedro incorporates many of these instruments in such musical styles as Jazz, Delta Blues, Salsa, Reggae, Calypso, Country, Rock, Folk & Ragtime. During this time Pedro caught the ear of Rock N Roll Hall of Fame member and Grammy winning veteran, Dickey Betts, founding member of the The Allman Brothers Band. Betts asked Pedro to join his solo project, Dickey Betts & Great Southern, as full time bass player. Pedro has filmed a DVD entitled “Back Where It All Begins” with Betts and Great Southern, at The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, appeared on The Carson Daily Show as well as touring extensively with Dickey Betts & Great Southern, exciting thousands with his musical ability. While home on breaks Pedro recorded his solo album entitled, “Pedro Arevalo & Friends,” released in September, 2005, with pre orders of the project reaching impressive numbers. The album features guest appearances by Dickey Betts, Mike Kach, T.C. Carr, Duane Betts and many others. The album is an interesting mix of Blues, Country, and Rock n Roll. With plans to tour in support of the album, Pedro continues to write, perform, and produce his eclectic mix of music.

THE GODFATHER OF FUNK & me

Check this out. I had a quick chat with the godfather of funk himself, Mr. George Clinton. Kids, take a listen and look into the World of funk, and never forget this man who is a historic figure in the music world. It is brief because he just left a Motown event and I just wanted the guy to catch his breath, but it is still as cool as cool can be.

Susan Cagle…My American Idol.

listen to our conversation here.

The second-oldest of 10 children, Cagle started performing in public stations in New York City, including Union Square, Grand Central Terminal and subway stations in Times Square. In addition to singing, Cagle plays the guitar in the majority of her performances, with her sister Caroline playing bass and her brother Jesse on second guitar. Cagle began playing guitar at the age of 7, and by the age of 14 was writing poetry and songs. When older, she decided to leave her family and the Children of God group, at odds over their beliefs, and moved to New York. She soon began writing, recording music and performing in subway stations (her album, “The Subway Recordings”, is cut from live shows).

During a show in the Herald Square subway station, Cagle was discovered by producer Jay Levine, who introduced her to then new president of Columbia Records, Steve Greenberg. She soon became his first signing in this placement. Cagle and her band still tour and perform in New York’s underground. Her album currently sells across the US, the first released single titled “Shakespeare”. Susan has recently finished recording her new studion which should be coming out soon. Her MySpace site states the release date to be March of 2007.

Go Get ‘Em Pete.

Guitarist Pete Townshend of The Who has posted a statement on his website announcing the band’s intentions to record every show of their summer UK tour. Knowing that Who shows are currently bootlegged illegally, Townshend, with the approval of lead singer Roger Daltrey, conceived a plan to bootleg the shows himself and then donate the proceeds to charity. The band will also Web cast a live, 30-minute stream from every show for 99 cents, with the proceeds going to local health and children’s charities. Wow, this Townshend fellow is a hell of a guy! But, wait, he’s not quite done! 10 dollar lottery tickets will be sold at the shows for a chance to win the last guitar Pete ever smashed on stage, with that money benefiting the New Orleans Appeal. The band will also sell BitTorrent downloads and offer podcasts through iTunes. Why are they doing all of this? “BECAUSE WE FUCKING WELL CAN,Townshend states on his site.

Desmond Dekker Dead At 64

Ska and reggae pioneer Desmond Dekker died Wednesday, May 24 of a heart attack at his home in Surrey, England. Dekker, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica, had a string of hits both in his home country and in the UK. His most well known singles included “Israelites,” “Rudie Got Soul” and “007 (Shanty Town).” Many of his songs were about rudeboy culture, glamorizing the lifestyle for the growing mod subculture in 1960s England. Dekker is credited for bringing world attention to Jamaica‘s ska and reggae movements, as well as paving the way for artists like Bob Marley. Dekker continued to record into the ’70s, though the singer declared bankruptsy in the ’80s when Two Tone ska fans dwindled. A re-release of “Israelites” and a full touring schedule up until his death kept Dekker busy.

Mike Clark Conversation

You might know him from the Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters…you might. Or, you might recognize him as one of the truly authentic jazz/funk/soul/R&B/Blues/Hip Hop drummers on the planet. Check out this conversation for some insight to the world of music, the good and not so good. Little tricks of the trade that’ll make you say “cool” and a show tonight in Manchester Connecticut. The amount of people who have worked with Mike and also “borrowed” loops of his drumming,is absolutely mindboggling. For more about Mike,

Dan Hick’s conversation

finally, after a technical mess…I have relocated the interview with Dan Hicks and am able to bring the entertaing chat to you.Throughout his decades-long career, Dan Hicks stood as one of contemporary music’s true eccentrics. While steeped in folk, his acoustic sound knew few musical boundaries, drawing on country, call-and-response vocals, jazz phrasing, and no small amount of humor to create a distinctive, albeit sporadic, body of work which earned him a devoted cult following.

Check out Dan’s website.

Elvis’ Legacy Joining Cirque Du Soleil

I am a huge Elvis fan, so this news seemed interesting to me.
Elvis Presley is going on a worldwide circus tour. CKX Inc., the parent company of Elvis Presley Enterprises, announced a long-term joint venture Thursday with Cirque du Soleil, the Canadian-based acrobatic troupe known for its extravagant theatrical and acrobatic productions. Cirque du Soleil (French for circus of the sun) will produce a series of shows focused on Presley‘s life and music and help design interactive, multimedia museums called “Elvis Experiences,” CKX said. Touring productions are expected to get under way in about 18 months in Europe and Asia with the first of a series of “Elvis Experience” museum opening later in 2008, Sillerman said from his headquarters in New York. . CKX also owns the American Idol TV show and other entertainment ventures. Cirque du Soleil, begun in 1984, is scheduled to stage 13 shows this year, including one set to open in Las Vegas next month based on the music of the Beatles.

Dj Cheb i Sabbah talk

Listen here

Cheb i Sabbah was born in Algeria and moved to France in the ’60s. He is one of the earliest practitioners of the art of deejaying and began spinning in Paris in 1964 where he first saw and met The Living Theatre, whose influence resonates in the drama and epic abandon of Shri Durga. It is hard to separate the myth from reality about Cheb i Sabbah’s life in the ’70s. He maintains a stoic silence about it. He makes no comments about his engagement by John and Yoko in the U.K. and the macrobiotic connection therein. Freaky performance art in body bags? Chebiji makes no elaboration. Although, we do know that he joined The Living Theatre in 1971 and later on, with Suzanne Thomas, started a theater troupe in San Francisco named Tribal Warning Theatre. In the late ’80s and through the ’90s dj Cheb i Sabbah was an icon of the DJ circuit in San Francisco and was involved in a breathtaking variety of musical collaborations and performances including Qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and jazz trumpeter Don Cherry. He produced an album called The Majoon Traveller, using DJ-cut-up techniques and making fast connections with Brion Gysin, Ira Cohen, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman and Moroccan Jilala and Gnawa trance music for the Sub Rosa label. Since then, he has remixed Psychic TV, Paul Horn and Don Cherry. His diverse influences and spiritual curiosity resulted in Shri Durga, his debut album and a mind-bending, panaromic Hindu-goth pi裥 de r鳩stance.

“Music is the only thing I know. It has the power to liberate one from whatever one wants to be liberated from.” – dj Cheb i Sabbah
