I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Ricky McKinnie, who used to be the drummer of the group and now is one of the singers as the Blind Boys of Alabama prepare to be in Madison on December 1st with Liz Vice at the Memorial Union’s Shannon Hall. I am always excited to speak with people who have changed the face of music, and this it yet another opportunity to hear it from a legend’s mind. We spoke about what the audience can expect from not only a Blind Boys’ show, but a very special treat of a Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Event. We spoke about the greatest gift Mr. McKinnie could receive this year and that is YOU coming out and sharing in the moment of the show. The Blind Boys of Alabama have an incredible amount of material to choose from, Grammy awarded material of their own, traditional spirituals and perhaps even one or two off their new album they are wrapping up with the one and only, Taj Mahal.
